The End is the Beginning; 4

January 6th 2012
7:30am up and out- to see Perito Moreno- one of the most coolest things I have ever seen! GIGANTIC Glacier! CELERENE blue, literally- it looked fake!!! It looked like candy almost-like blue rock candy! AMAZING!

Every half hour, if you were lucky (which we were), you would see a massiveeee ice chunk fall from this massive glacier crashing into the water sending ripples of water miles away. It was so intense! Too cool! The sound of the ice hitting the water is like this deep loud earth shaking thunder. So powerful. Everything about everything was so massive and powerful. Mother nature is so incredibly powerful- totally got that feel looking at this glacier.

Glaciers only show 10% of their ice above the water. 90% of the ice is underwater. Humans know about 10% of what this wild and precious world offers. That’s this much…
90% is still to be discovered…hmmm

Crackers and mustard for breakfast and lunch.

Then off we were on yet another bus ride- heading to El Chalten, the trekking town of Patagonia! Pioneros del Valle- AWESOME hostal!! So so awesome and highly suggested! There we were sitting on these couches in this hostal sipping tea just staring out the windows looking at these massive snow-capped mountains. Again, INSIDE National Geographics. Could not stop staring- sat for hours-staring.

January 7th 2012
Happy Birthday Jodi!!! Thinking of you p.i.c. Aye (one of the girl’s we befriended in Ushuaia on New Years who we happened to re-see in our hostal in El Chalten…small world of travelers), Monetti and I were off to trek to Glacier Fitz Roy.

Along the way I found my new home…

On the trek up the mountain, we veered off the route to check out Lago Capri which was surprise surprise- BEAUTIFUL!
As a salute to to the p.i.c., I was on extra bad behavior and totally went skinny dipping in this lake. Monetti did not support it/was giving me the silent treatment which is extra why I had to do it…aahhahaha

but Aye totally joined in!
After a fresh dip, we headed back to the trail and worked our way to the top of Fitz Roy Glacier/ Lagos de Los Tres. Fresh water breaks were the best!

The last hour of this trek was I-N-T-E-N-S-E. PS- when did we become hardcore mountain climbers? Ha. Monetti wanted to punch me at points for making her do these activities.

Anyways, yet another National Geographic’s paradise. There were were sitting aside this massive lake-Lagos de Los Tres- made from the running water from the Fitz Roy Glacier. Turquioise blue. Insanely beautiful!

Again, whose life am I living and how lucky am I? Aye journaling.

Me meditating.

Monetti making baby snow womyn.

Later we made snowballs and pretended they were soccer balls and kept heading them! Funny fun.  Oh ya, I also learned how to stand on water.

AMAZING!

Bodies are sore but we had to make our steep trek down and master the loose shaky rocks! Empanadas for a late night’s dinner. Exhausted but going to bed with yet another perma-smile.

January 8th 2012
Exhausted from all the trekking and traveling, we decided to sleep in to give our bodies a rest. Cookies and tea for breakfast. Icecream for lunch, ha. Walked the town and was impressed yet again but the cultural artwork and crafts.
Depending on how strong this rock swings...it predicts the incoming weather or something.

Monetti, Aye, and I made friends with Alex (from Australia) and Anna (California girl that moved to South America). Rest and relaxation with the girls sharing our trips adventures- laughing about the things you have to do to make it through Patagonia on a small budget. We came to learn we weren’t the only ones who were living off of cookies, icecream and pasta. Alex was asking someone about their shirt (remera=tshirt; ramera=slut.). She kept saying ramera and everyone was staring at her. One letter can make such a difference. (Another example is when I asked one of the nuns here if she was hungry-tienes hambre? Except I said tienes hombre? Which translates to Do you have a man?) Language barrier humor at its best. Anyways, another really cool accessory to this hostal was that it had a grill outside so obvi we had to take advantage of it!

We pooled some money together and decided to grill a dinner together at 10pm at night- afterall, it was LIGHT out at 10pm! Aye and I handled the grill. Yummy!!!! Good friends. Amazing-everything!

January 9th 2012
8am and Im off to trek El Torres, another mountain- with Aye. Monetti took a break from trekking and walked the town again. She also did a nice hour long serene walk to El Salto, a small waterfall which she said was super relaxing and much needed.
Aye and I took our mate and cookies and made our way to another glacier-El Torres. Again, beautiful.  Natural lakes in-between snow-capped mountains. I know I keep saying that but it NEVER got old, not even a little bit! We got back just before dinner time, went and picked up Monetti at the hostal and went to get what…ICECREAM!! I found this chocolate hazelnut icecream with nuts! Yummmmy! Then we bought some empanadas (cheapest thing in town to eat) and went back to the hostal where we rested from our trek.

Listened to Aye’s Argentinian music while just talking about life-ha, looking out the windows, again at this massive snow-capped mountains. Spent some time journaling which was nice. Overall, another amazing day!

January 10th, 2012
8am- we are up and out- on yet another bus ride through National Geographics-some more, cow, guanaco, sheep, and horse crossings. Monetti slept while Aye and I gave eachother Spanish/engish lessons and shared mate and crackers. When we arrived at the place where we were suppose to connect to another bus, there were no seats left so we had to plant where we were for that night and try to catch one in the morning. Said our goodbyes to Aye who was continuing her adventures elsewhere and then went out to find some….icecream! Ha. We also tried to sort out what money we had left in order to decide where and what we could do with out remaining days of the trip. Can we do everything we wanted to do? If we keep living off icecream crackers and free pasta, it just may be possible! We decided we should probably wash our clothes since we were wearing the same thing every day. Shampoo for hair, body, and face…and well now it also became our laundry detergent! We went one month with one small shampoo bottle- which we used as our cleaning product for everything. Ha. Lots of traveling, lots of trekking- we relaxed for the day-did some journaling and reading. We heard there was Tango show in town so we headed out at night to check out this Tango show which was held at this local bar that had this western style look. There we sat and watched this tango show that was put on by the 4 people who worked at the bar! Ha! They handed out burets to all the women so obvi we put them in our hair to get in the tango mood!

This lady Nativity (who we happened to meet a few days earlier who was staying in our hostal…walked in and we are like hey we know you! Travelers crossing paths once again). Nativity is in her early 60s- from France- just left France to travel South America! Love it. So Monetti, Nativity and I clapped and moved to the tango music all night! Such an interesting show! Good friends. Good show. Good night!
