UNCOMMON GRATITUDE by JOAN CHITTISTER

Joan Chittister is the bomb dot com. I’m feeling really grateful for life presents us with so many opportunities so many loops and turns. How lucky are we to be in a network of surprises each and every day forever and ever?

For all you Joan Chittister fans out there, including you Liz and Lar, I thought I’d post some of her quotes from her book I’ve been reading for yaaaaaaa! I italicized my favorite parts! K, peace!

“Life gives us all a chance over and over again to do today what we did not do last year or in any other place or yesterday. Life is simply the process of growing. It is at best a process of stops and starts, of moments apparently without meaning and times that test the fiber of the soul. There is noting meaningless in life that everything we do is bring us closer and closer to where we’re going, whether we know where that is or not.

“It seems in times of great personal struggle that we surrender to life….

…. Then, secure in WHAT/WHO WE ARE rather than what/who we have, we suddenly know that there is nothing to fear. There is nothing outside of us that can possibly destroy the security within.  It can take years to understand that.

“Life comes in loss and leaves us to begin again. Life comes in surprises and requires us to adjust and grow. Life comes in the very moments we expected least but live to hilt.”

“Life is dimensional. Life is physical existence with all the limits and tasks that implies. Life is all the emotional development with all the ecstasy and all the anguish that requires. Life is the slow, steady cycle of spiritual growth, with all the many diversions we practice to avoid the real thing Life is the process of becoming emotionally, psychologically, spiritually, whole-balanced, and lost in consciousness. It is the experience of having dealt with the surprises of life, opened our souls to things we never thought we wanted, and come to find that the essence of life is not in anybody’s definition of perfection. Life is only in the search for it, in the acceptance of it in ALL its dimensions, at ALL its levels. It is in the consciousness that life is forever and always a work in progress. Every day. For All our years.”
